Winter Field Day 2025

Sat/Sun Jan 25, 26

We put W7PIG on the air again for this very chilly annual event. We had stalwart workers, operators, and supporters that made it easier to put up with a little discomfort over the weekend. The totals aren't tallied up yet, however, the bands were favorable and I know we made a ton of contacts! Big “thank you” to all who helped, participated, provided, and fed us! I'm especially grateful for those who set up on Friday and took it down on Sunday. It is great to have a club where so many are willing to pitch in like that. Because of you, we put on a great and successful event! s/Fred - N7KRN

Some comments:

KJ7FGG - Joe: Had fun at WFD, very tired by end. Thanks to everyone who operated in the SSB station and with set up.

KK7NQW - Jonathan: Lot of fun for 1st WFD. Enjoyed operating Digital. Big thank you to N7KRN for coordinating this event.

W6BQD - Joel also had a lot of fun at WFD... and no injuries!

AG7BG - Bob: Limited time at WFD but no rain rain this year!

This year was a 30 hour event where the club operated several stations completely independent from commercial power sources. In essence, we simulated a winter emergency situation providing both short range and long range communications using voice and various digital modes.

Summer Field Day

Fri/Sat/Sun Jul 27, 28, 29

We had 48 people participating this year at the Arrowhead Ranch on Camano Island. Beginning July 27th on Friday morning we set up 3 towers, 6 antennas, and 6 shelters for 5 operating stations. Using low power transmitters for 24 hours continuously, we made 1,432 contacts in 55 States/Provinces and 12 countries. All that on emergency power generators and batteries.

In addition to our main Digital and SSB voice stations, the Get On The Air (GOTA) tent was occupied constantly - providing training and practice time. It also introduced a large number of visitors and young people to Amateur Radio and gave them the opportunity to make their own radio contacts. Our potluck on Saturday evening literally provided the "icing on the cake". [Thanks to Fred N7KRN for this report]
